THE RAID

They entered my house without my permission. I was in the kitchen. I couldn’t inform anyone. They didn’t give me any time or gave any heed to my words. They went on with their duty searching everywhere, collecting every bit and piece they got from there. One thing that surprised me most was all my doors were closed. Then how did they manage to come inside? As I was thinking about all these, someone pricked on my hand. Ouch! I looked up and found a line of them marching very quietly into my kitchen through the windowsill. How dare they pop into my kitchen?   Then I understood why they were so interested to linger in my kitchen. It was my little one’s handiwork, to scatter everything around, when he was done with his favourite snacks. I prepped myself to exterminate the intruders. I poured some water over them and brushed the rest of them from my wall and ceiling. Getting back the control of my kitchen, happily I went on with my business, cutting some vegetables of...

THE DISCUS THROW COMPETITION

Some subjects are really very boring. Especially in our Business Studies classes, we were happy to be disturbed by someone or something. Either the sight of my classmate sleeping with her eyes opened or the fight of my friends playing Sudoku in the next bench or the footsteps of someone near the door made me happy. We were in the ‘heaven’, that’s how everyone addressed our classroom. We were lucky to be the tenants of that 'one and only classroom', which was at the zenith of the college building. Usually, a cool breeze or a drizzling rain welcomed us to our class. One day as usual we were waiting for some disturbance; a footstep was heard near the door. And I never thought that this disturbance was really going to take me at stakes. We saw a tall and stout girl at the door. She was the last year’s sports champion. She requested the...

THE EYE OPENER

I took my profession as a lecturer. It was the same college from where I walked out a year before, completing my post-graduation. My heart’s first thirst was quenched.   But my condition there was embarrassing, striving among my teachers (now my colleagues) and my students (almost of my same age). I didn’t get much appreciation as my students were rough and their voice was higher than my voice. Their talks and cheers fell on my ears like death bell. Once a boy in my class, who was sitting in the back row, near the door, simply stepped out to see if there is any change in the world outside and calmly returned through the other door. I couldn’t tolerate that harmless trespass and decided to break his calmness. I raised my voice, but his voice was higher than mine. Day by day my strength and confidence faded. Also, I had to meet the expectations of my well-wishers. Every night I cooked up my head to get out of that dilemma . One day I was busy preparing my students for the up...
